THURSDAY, FRIDAY, & SATURDAY - DECEMBER 1, 2, & 3 -- Veronica's Room; This thriller, written by Ira Levin, author of "Rosemary's Baby", is a spider's web entwining fantasy and reality. Susan Kerner, a young Boston college student and Larry Eastwood, a young lawyer she's just met, have been enticed to the Brabissant mansion by the Mackeys, a charming older Irish couple who are struck by Susan's resemblance to Veronica Brabissant, long dead daughter of the family for whom they work. Susan is induced to impersonate Veronica for awhile to solace the only living Brabissant, her addled sister living in the past and believing Veronica is alive and angry with her. But once dressed in Veronica's clothes, Susan finds herself locked in the role…and locked in Veronica's room. Or is she Veronica, in 1935, pretending to be an imaginary Susan?
THURSDAY, FRIDAY, & SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 9, & 10 -- THE MUSIC MAN; Bryant's Faculty take the stage in this affectionate paean to Smalltown, U.S.A. of a bygone era. Meredith Willson’s THE MUSIC MAN follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef.
THURSDAY, FRIDAY, & SATURDAY - MAY 3, 4, &5 -- THE KING & I; East versus West makes for a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting tale of enormous fascination. It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West, and he seeks Anna's assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story. |
